Thermostatically controlled devices that fit into the oil cooler pipes to control the flow of oil to the cooler. They remain closed, stopping oil flow to the cooler until a temperature of 80 degrees C is reached. At this point the stat opens to allow oil to flow through the cooler.
The advantages to fitting an oil stat are that they allow the engine oil to heat up quicker which can reduce engine wear and help increase fuel MPG.
