DescriptionExciting NEW race event for Mk4 Golf GTI 1.8T & TDI models. Low Cost, Many Subsidised Control Parts making it a real DRIVERS event, Excellent Calendar. TV coverage on MOTORS TV !.
The successful SuperPro VAG Trophy has broadened its appeal by creating a new class within its grid for the ever-popular VW Golf Mk4 TDI/GTI variants. The exciting new series, known as the Mk4 Golf TDIGTI Challenge, will have a strict cap on potential cost.
The organisers are very pleased to report that the races will be televised on Motors TV !!.
An overview is provided below :
• Build a car from as little as £5000 !.
• 1.8T petrol and 130/150 TDI models go head to head.
• Control parts to ensure a 'level playing field'.
• Race at some of the countries best circuits.
• Friendly and helpful environment to race in – superb paddock atmosphere !.
• Be part of one of the UK's largest VW racing scenes.
• Which is best – petrol or diesel ? – YOU can help us find out !.
The current secondhand value of the Mk4 performance models has plummeted and good, often with service history, base cars can be acquired from under £1000. Generally with very good mechanicals, there is no need to carry out a full rebuild to turn them into race cars.
Competitive cars will be able to be built from as little as £5000, though those not keen on wielding the spanners themselves can also turn to a network of approved specialists who will build a 'turn-key' car ready to race.
A tightly monitored package of control parts makes for even and competitive racing, putting the emphasis back on driving skill and set-up. Tyres, brakes, dampers, exhaust and tuning packages will all be available at a subsidised cost, making this a real 'drivers' series, as well as superb value for all involved.
The new race cars will run in Class B of the SuperPro VAG Trophy for the first year, but within a year or two it is hoped that the grid will have grown to enable the series to stand on its own as a real crowd and driver pleasing spectacle.
The format and calibre of the tracks is amongst the best in the UK, with ten rounds ( two per weekend - 'double headers') at the following circuits :
• 28th / 29th April - Donington Park.
• 12th / 13th May – Silverstone National.
• 21st July – Oulton Park International.
• 15th / 16th September – Brands Hatch Grand Prix
• 27th / 28th October – Snetterton 300.
The event will be part of some high profile race meetings, sharing the paddock with, variously, GT Cup, Mini Challenge and Lotus On Track Elise Trophy.
Extra information - the red Mk4 GTI 1.8T pictured above was purchased from Ebay for £1070 and has proved to be an excellent base car, proving it can be done !.
