The Fun Cup endurance championship was launched in the UK in 2002, as a step forward in motorsport with the clearly defined objective of providing cost effective, close, exciting and above all, good fun racing for all teams competing.
The concept was originally conceived in Belgium based on the success of endurance karting. As well as a championship in the UK and Belgium, it now runs in France, Italy, Germany and Spain. From small beginnings, it has taken off to massive success with more than 160 cars on the grid for the Spa 25 hour race and regular grids, topping 50 cars in Europe.
The cars are race designed, single-seaters, with super-strong space frame chassis'. They are powered by ultra-reliable mid-mounted VW/Audi petrol engines, which are 1800cc and 130bhp, or 1900cc TDI, 170bhp Audi engines. Therefore, there are two classes. One consists of the TDI's and the other features the more popular, petrols. There are podium presentations for the top three teams in both classes, after each race.
Both are matched to an Audi 5 speed gearbox at the rear. However, the petrol cars now have the added option of a Sadev sequential gearbox, with powershift (the favoured option).
They are ultra tough and will withstand a huge amount of racing, with little work and they are simple, easy to work on and straight forward to repair.
The races usually last between 4 and 6 hours, with a 1 hour qualifying session. The racing is ultra close with fractions between the leaders. Frequently, just 1 or 2 seconds separate them at the chequered flag, after 5 or 6 hours of action.
Team sizes range from 2 - 6 drivers for UK events and up to 8 for the prestigious Spa 25 hour race.
So, with the engines and gearboxes sealed and regulations strictly controlled, the racing is super close and the running costs remarkably low.
Fun Cup receives widespread promotion, across a whole range of prime media from motorsport magazines through to daily newspapers, general interest magazines and TV coverage. The championship is filmed at each UK event and Spa 25 hours, for Sky Sports "Raceworld" programme and Motors TV. Each season, we have over 30 hours of TV coverage and an end of year season review DVD. In addition, cameras are mounted in, or on, several cars, to capture on-track action during the race, which is brilliant for driver enjoyment and for the sponsors.
As well as the option of buying a new, or second hand car, we offer seats and cars for hire. These packages are extremely popular. So, without the need to buy, you can rent a one-off drive, a seat for a complete season, or a car for the season. Tell us what you want and we will do our best to make it happen. All of this makes it easy to try out the championship, allowing you to enter the world of endurance racing and effortlessly enjoy, real, cost-effective motorsport.
We can even match you with a team of similar ability drivers if you don't have any team mates! As a JPR rental driver, you will also benefit from hospitality for the entire event.
Just a few of our proudest achievements with our hire cars include, being the only UK team to have ever won Spa 25 hours overall; winning the overall petrol class in the 2010 World Finals; winning the overall petrol class at Spa 2011; preparing the overall championship winning car in 2011, as well as the 3rd placed car in the TDI championship; winning the UK class at Spa several times and countless victories and podium finishes at the UK events, since Fun Cup's inception into the UK, in 2002.
We have been running cars in the championship since its inception into the UK in 2002 and so, we have a vast knowledge of the cars, circuits and set-up.
All you need to do, is literally turn up and race! Let us do the rest!
